KOTA KINABALU: Two French paragliders were rescued around Mount Kinabalu after one of them crashed near the mountain summit, while another got tangled in trees on the forested western side.

One of the Frenchman suffered a leg injury when he landed on the granite surface at the 7.5km trail of the mountain.

He sustained a left leg injury and was treated by the Mountain Rescue and Search (Mosar) team who stretchered him down the mountain before being sent to Ranau district hospital for treatment.

According to the Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman, a Mosar team was sent up to the mountain to rescue the adult male at around 7.40am and the whole operation was completed by 5.18pm.

In the meantime at about 10.52am, firemen were alerted that another Frenchman was trapped in a tree at a height of about 60m in the Kiau View Trail forest on the western side of Mount Kinabalu.

He said that they were able to bring down the entangled 54-year-old Frenchman using ropes. He was shaken though unhurt by the incident.

The spokesman said they ended the rescue operations at 4.58pm.

He said that the two were part of a group of eight people involved in paragliding activities in the area.
