KUWAIT CITY, June 12: In response to the devastating fire incident in Mangaf, Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, serving as the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and Minister of Defense, has swiftly intervened, ordering the detention of individuals associated with the stricken property and labor company.
Al-Yousef underscored the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that those detained should not be released from the criminal court without his knowledge. His visit to the fire site revealed alarming details, including the occupancy of the building by 196 individuals, as disclosed by the building owner’s brother. Holding the responsible parties accountable, Al-Yousef urged them to consider the ramifications of their actions before God.
Characterizing the incident as a profound disaster, Al-Yousef attributed it to the avarice of company and building owners. In response, he initiated a campaign against violations, directing authorities to promptly address encroachments on residential buildings and other sites to avert future tragedies.
Al-Yousef issued a stern ultimatum to violators, demanding rectification of infractions by the following morning. Failure to comply would trigger immediate municipal intervention, with removal teams dispatched without prior notice. Negligent property owners would face prosecution for their oversights.
Furthermore, Al-Yousef announced proactive measures by the Public Authority for Manpower to tackle labor accumulation issues and ensure adherence to labor regulations.
Regarding the property where the fire occurred, plans for the owner’s detention were disclosed pending an investigation into potential negligence.
In a related development, Al-Yousef visited Al-Adan Hospital to assess the condition of the injured. Three individuals were subsequently transferred to Al-Jahra Hospital for further treatment, highlighting ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of the tragedy.
