KUALA LUMPUR: Those found using fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates should be punished severely.Among the actions that could be taken is to confiscate their passports, said Alliance for Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye (pic).
He said they could also be incarcerated for an extended period of time.
“It is an inevitable consequence of anti-vaxxers wanting to enjoy the freedoms that have been extended to those who have been fully vaccinated.
“However, these anti-vaxxers should be made to know that they can’t have their cake and eat it too.
“Yes, it is their right (at least for now) not to be vaccinated, but it is wrong for them to endanger the lives of those who have already been vaccinated,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Lee said the emergence of fake vaccination certificates was like an accident waiting to happen.
“These miscreants are dicing with death and should be severely dealt with.
“The police have said that their act is a violation of the law and that they are liable to be fined up to RM100,000.
“Perhaps the penalty should be increased to include confiscation of their passports and incarceration for an extended period of time,” he added.
Lee also said it was important for the police to act fast and make public the results of their investigations so as to restore confidence in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
“The results of their investigations into fake vaccine shots should be publicised as well.
“Since this matter affects the public directly, the people have the right to know all the facts and the authorities have a duty to reveal the facts.
“Restoring public confidence is crucial for the success of any government initiative,” Lee added.
