Covid-19 figures drop to below 6,000

       PETALING JAYA: The country’s daily Covid-19 figures have continued to record a downward trend with 5,434 new cases in the last 24 hours.

       According to the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository, this is the first time the daily figures have dropped below 6,000 since June 28 when 5,218 cases were recorded on that day.

       Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s cumulative number of infections stood at 2,396,121.

       “Of the new cases, 5,429 were locally transmitted while five were imported,” he said in a statement.

       Dr Noor Hisham said 151 of the cases (2.8%) were in Categories 3, 4 and 5 while 5,283 cases (97.2%) were under Categories 1 and 2.

       He also said that there were 8,435 recoveries yesterday.

       A total of 682 patients were warded in the intensive care units with 622 confirmed as Covid-19 cases while the remaining 60 were still under investigation.

       From the 357 cases that required ventilator support, a total of 286 cases were confirmed to be Covid-19 while another 71 were still under investigation.

       There were 15 new clusters detected, bringing the cumulative number to 5,687.
