A MARRIED police Chief Superintendent has been suspended from duty amid allegations of an improper relationship with a young officer under his command.

       Daniel Greenwood, 38, is facing an investigation into his alleged relationship with glamorous PC Caitlin Howarth, 21.

       It is understood investigators will examine text messages and meetings between the two.

       Probationary officer PC Howarth has also been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

       West Yorkshire Police’s Chief Constable has been made aware of the situation and the force’s Professional Standards Directorate is also investigating any alleged misconduct.

       Their suspensions have quickly become the talk of the force and Chief Supt Greenwood’s temporary replacement had to send an email to staff making clear what had happened to the senior officer.

       A source said: “News of the suspensions has gone round like wildfire among officers in Bradford and Leeds all this week. Dan is a family man and a decent guy so everyone is really shocked by his suspension.”

       Chief Supt Greenwood has been in the police for almost 20 years and is the Bradford District Commander.

       'Glum-looking officer'

       He is married and lives in Bingley, West Yorks.

       The glum-looking officer was spotted at the family home this week, unshaven and wearing a beanie hat and casual clothes as he awaited the outcome of the probe into his conduct.

       Given his seniority, it is likely Chief Constable John Robins will have the final say on whether any action is taken against the suspended officers.

       PC Howarth, who also lives in Bingley, at her mother’s house, has been enjoying shopping trips with her mum during her suspension.

       She regularly posts pictures of herself wearing revealing outfits on her social media pages and has more than 10,000 followers on Instagram.

       There is no reference to her new job as a police officer on social media, other than that she has liked West Yorkshire Police’s Facebook page.

       Two officers have been suspended from duty pending the outcome of that investigation.

       New PCs must serve two years as a probationary officer, at the end of which their performance and conduct is reviewed.

       A police spokesman said: “West Yorkshire Police’s Professional Standards Directorate are investigating alleged misconduct of officers in Bradford District.

       “Two officers have been suspended from duty pending the outcome of that investigation.”
