The renowned Kellogg's cockerel has been transformed into the UK's largest-ever weathervane, standing at an impressive 21ft tall.

This fully operational weathervane, which is 11ft wider, now graces Ness Point in Lowestoft, Suffolk the most easterly point in the UK where the sun first greets the nation.

A team of skilled sculptors and engineers meticulously crafted the record-breaking cockerel over a two-month period. The structure, made from steel, has been hand-painted to encapsulate the character of Cornelius.

This temporary installation, set to remain until Thursday, was erected to commemorate Cornelius' inaugural makeover, as showcased in a new TV advertising campaign.

The initiative follows a survey of 2,000 adults which revealed that they spend nine minutes daily discussing the weather equating to 146 days over an average lifetime.

Jenn Carkner, vice president of the cereal brand, commented: "We are launching a campaign to celebrate the uniqueness of mornings".

She added: "What better way to welcome a brand-new day than with a totally unique and show-stopping weathervane, topped by our legendary mascot Cornelius in all his glory."

At 67 years old, the famous bird has graced Corn Flakes boxes since 1958. Cornelius' 'body' was hand-carved and painted using various materials, with particular attention paid to capturing his 'cheeky personality.

The research also highlighted the weather is the most popular topic of conversation at breakfast, with 25 per cent of people discussing it, surpassing discussions about news and work. Moreover, 21% of brits confess to talking about the weather several times a day.
