Bond was set at $500,000 for a 22-year-old Naperville man accused of driving in excess of 120 mph and causing a Lisle crash that killed two men and a woman in late October, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Brendan Wydajewski was charged with three felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing death, and misdemeanor counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and transportation or possession of open alcohol by a driver in the 1:15 a.m. Oct. 30 crash at the intersection of Warrenville Road and Corporate West Drive in Lisle, the release said.
Authorities said Lisle officers arrived that morning to find two vehicles, one of which was cut in half with the driver’s side of the vehicle located in the road and the other half located off the road to the north.
Driver Andrew Purtill, 46, of Aurora, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the second vehicle, allegedly driven by Wydajewski, officers found Graciela Leanos, 21, of Shorewood, and Geovanny Alvarez, 22, of Waukegan.

Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene. Leanos was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where she was pronounced dead later that evening.
Wydajewski was taken to an area hospital for medical attention and released Nov. 28.
Police investigators estimate Wydajewski was driving his vehicle at approximately 122 mph westbound on Warrenville Road when he crashed into a vehicle driven by Purtill.
While a driver with a blood-alcohol level of .08 or higher is considered under the influence in Illinois, Wydajewski’s blood-alcohol level is alleged to be .147, according to the release.
Lisle officers also reportedly found two handguns the vehicle driven by Wydajewski.

“Like all alleged DUI cases, the case against Mr. Wydajewski was 100% avoidable,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin in the release. “As I have said countless times in the past, if you have been drinking, do not drive. This is particularly relevant now, as we begin the holiday season. It is a very simple idea but unfortunately, in far too many instances, people feel they are able to drive when they are not, and tragedy follows as alleged in this case.”
The crash was investigated by the Lisle Police Department and the DuPage MERIT Major Crash Reconstruction Team.
Wydajewski’s next court appearance is scheduled Jan. 11.
