A man from unincorporated Maine Township died from drowning while swimming in a condominium complex pool, authorities said.

       Mieczyslaw Podraza, 80, of the 8800 block of North Western Avenue, died July 5 after he was found in a pool on the 8900 block of David Place in unincorporated Maine Township near Niles, the Cook County Sheriff’s Department and Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

       The address of the pool is in the Courtland Square condominium complex north of Golf Road and west of Western Avenue.

       Matt Walberg, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department, said two people discovered the man at the bottom of the pool around 6 p.m., shortly after he had been seen swimming there. The individuals pulled Podraza from the water and began administering CPR until paramedics arrived, Walberg said.

       Podraza was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

       The medical examiner’s office ruled Podraza’s death an accidental drowning, with heart and cardiovascular disease as secondary causes.

       Podraza was a resident of the condominium complex, records show.
