Royal Family members plan to snub Queen's Balmoral holiday tradition

Prince Charles' plan to shake up the Royal Family after the Queen passes away will include snubbing Her Majesty's holiday tradition. It has been reported that under the Prince of Wales's vision for a slimmed-down Royal Family, Balmoral Castle could be turned into a museum. Speaking about the claims on the Royally Us podcast, royal commentator Molly Mulshine said that the news about Balmoral was heartbreaking.

She said that the move could see the Royal Family "never going to spend August in Scotland again".

The Royal Family traditionally have their summer holidays at Balmoral in Scotland and spend Christmas at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Podcast co-host Christina Garibaldi explained: "Charles is maybe thinking of turning Balmoral into a museum, and Kate and William will likely move to Windsor to be a little bit closer.

"So it seems like he wants to slim down the monarchy and make it more accessible to the public to relive history all over again."

Ms Mulshine responded: "Balmoral becoming a museum actually made me a little sad because they are never going to spend August in Scotland again after the queen passes away because it is cold!

"Everyone else in this country goes to the Mediterranean in August but the Royal Family just goes up north."

Ms Garibaldi added that the Scottish estate was "probably not the destination anymore".

It is thought that Balmoral Castle, which is closed to the public in the summer when the Queen is in residence, would pay tribute to her as a museum.

However, Charles may keep hold of the Birkhall house on the Balmoral Estate, which he inherited on the Queen Mother’s death in 2002.

As heir to the throne, Charles has long spoken about his plans to revamp the monarchy, which will include limiting the number of working royals.

The Prince of Wales is also hoping to open Buckingham Palace as an all-year-round tourist attraction.

Ms Mulshine explained: "So it seems that this is the plan, he is going to open Buckingham Palace mostly to the public and what the sources are calling it, is that he's going to live in a 'flat above the shop'.

"I think that's great, I think this is what people are going to want from him because the Queen has her own brand of stardust and amazingness that everyone loves.

"I think Charles can come in and be a little more pragmatic and win people over by being like 'we're not spending all of your tax money, we're opening things up to the public, it's all for you guys and us'.

"To be a little more egalitarian I think is going to be really good for his brand."

Buckingham Palace is currently undergoing a major refurbishment, which is costing £369million and is not due to be completed until 2027.
