The body of a Loyola University Chicago graduate missing since the June 24 collapse of a condominium building in Florida has been found and identified, according to police.

Juan Mora Jr., an alumnus of Loyola, had been missing since the collapse of Champlain Towers South Condominium, according to university spokeswoman Anna Rozenich. Miami-Dade police Thursday confirmed that Mora’s body was identified. He was 32 and had been staying with his parents Juan and Ana Mora at the building when it collapsed.

Another person with Chicago-area connections missing at the building, Ilan Naibryf, a rising fourth-year student at the University of Chicago studying physics and molecular engineering, is also among those still missing.

Rescue workers are now focused on finding remains instead of survivors in the rubble of the condominium collapse vowed Thursday to keep up their search for victims until they cleared all the debris at the site.

Earlier, a fire official told family members at a meeting that crews “will not stop working until they’ve gotten to the bottom of the pile and recovered every single one of the families’ missing loved ones,” Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett said at an evening news conference. He did not identify the official, but said the families were grateful.

The New York Times reported Thursday that the number of confirmed dead had risen to 64 with 76 still classified as potentially missing.

Mora, of Chicago, graduated from the Quinlan School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in August 2011, Rozenich said. He double majored in international business and marketing with a minor in Asian studies.

Mora was an employee of Morton Salt, according to the company. He was manager of the East Coast distribution for road salt and is based at the company’s Chicago headquarters. The company plans to make a $25,000 donation to a local agency to “assist with relief efforts and support services.”

Immigrants from Cuba and devout Catholics, the Moras took their family on missionary trips to the Caribbean to build churches and bridges, said Jeanne Ugarte, a close friend of Ana’s. Later, they became like second parents to Juan Jr.’s friends in Chicago, his friend Matthew Kaade said.

When the Moras came to visit, they would take all of Juan Jr.’s friends out to dinner. In Florida, they introduced Kaade to Cuban coffee and food, he said. “They were the kind of people that even if someone says ‘I’m not hungry,’ they would just continue to order food to make sure you had a full belly,” he said.

Kaade, who graduated with Mora from Loyola in 2011, said he texted this month saying he was planning to return to Chicago in early August.

“I was super excited to get him to come back,” said Kaade. He described Juan Jr., an avid Chicago Cubs fan, as genuine and someone his friends could always rely on “to be real and straight” with them.
