PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 7,140 new Covid-19 infections on Monday (April 18), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,396,165 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that there were 6,876 local Covid-19 transmissions detected as at 11.59pm Monday, while the remaining 264 cases were imported cases.
The portal also reported that recoveries continued to outpace daily cases, with 14,423 individuals recovering from their Covid-19 infections on Monday.
There are currently 96,601 active Covid-19 cases in the country, the first time the figure has dropped below the 100,000 mark since Feb 9, 2022.
CovidNow reported that 97.2% of current active cases, or 93,901 people, are observing home quarantine while 282 individuals, or 0.3% of the total, are being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres nationwide.
The portal also said that there are currently 110 individuals being treated at intensive care units (ICUs) nationwide, with 68, or 0.1% of active cases, requiring ventilator support.
A further 2.4% of active cases, or 2,308 individuals, have been hospitalised for treatment.
As at 11.59pm Monday, a total of 4,264,127 people in Malaysia have recovered from Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were 16 deaths due to Covid-19 on Monday, including four classified as brought-in-dead.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country to 35,437 since the pandemic began.
