A major police and emergency services operation was underway with large parts of a street sealed off by police in east London this evening.

Video of the scene obtained by Express.co.uk shows large numbers of police, firefighters and paramedics on standby in the Manford Way shopping area, near Hainault, at 7:40pm.

According to a witness, the activity was centred around the Post Office building.

An Incident Commander from the Met Police was seen taking control of the event.

A briefing involving several firefighters, police and paramedics also took place.

The witness said: "The area was swamped with all emergency services, but I'm not sure what was going on. There was something about a device found in a bundle of money and there were officers inside the Post Office looking at money by the counter."

A Met Police spokesman said: "It was a call to a suspicious item outside a post office around 5:20pm. After specialists attended around 19:35pm the incident was quickly stood down. Cordons have been lifted.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We sent resources to this incident as a pre-caution but they were later stood down."
