KOTA KINABALU: Immigration personnel have detained 28 people found without valid travel documents in a raid on a nightclub in Penampang near here on Wednesday (June 8) night.
Those detained included workers and guest relations officers (GROs) of the entertainment outlet as well as patrons.
A Sabah Immigration Department spokesman said the raiding team had earlier screened 75 of the nightclub’s employees and customers during the operation at Koidupan town at 11.40pm.
Following the check, 28 of them failed to produce valid documents or were found to have violated the terms of their visit passes.
“Those arrested comprised 20 Philippine and eight Indonesian nationals,” the spokesman said when contacted on Thursday (June 9).
He also said 22 of the detainees were women believed to be working at the nightclub.
“They were detained for violating Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (for not having valid travel passes) and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 (for breaching conditions of their travel permit).”
