PUTRAJAYA: There is nothing to indicate the authenticity of leaked documents alleging a conspiracy to topple Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Weighing in on the issue dubbed “Pasleak”, the Prime Minister said: “We don’t know if the documents are real or not.”
He declined further comment when approached by the media after launching the Keluarga Malaysia Keluarga Sejahtera book here yesterday.
“Pasleak” refers to several leaked documents, believed to be minutes of a PAS meeting, which point to an alleged conspiracy to topple Umno and Barisan leaders.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs Datuk Idris Ahmad, who was also at the event, dismissed the allegations.
“I am a PAS leader and I can say that this so-called leak is rubbish. There was no such discussion.
“The people behind this have an aim to see the government break up,” said the PAS vice-president.
The alleged plot is said to involve Terengganu Mentri Besar and PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
The plot includes a plan to “expedite” the sentencing of certain Umno leaders charged in court.
The alleged document had claimed that Takiyuddin and Ahmad Samsuri, who supposedly acted as operators to engage with leaders of several political parties, had met with Umno’s Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to discuss the general election and possible cooperation.
Hishammuddin, Ahmad Samsuri and Hamzah had denied there was such a plot.
Ahmad Samsuri had said there was no truth in the leaked documents but admitted that the meetings took place, though what was claimed to have been discussed never happened.
Hamzah had also dismissed allegations that Perikatan Nasional is conspiring to take certain people down.
“I have never done those things. It is not my work,” he had said.
Hishammuddin described the claims as “total rubbish”.
It was reported that Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s legal team planned to lodge a police report on the allegations.
