PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has appointed seven new members to the Special Committee on Corruption.

       The appointment of the seven, who include Dewan Negara Speaker Tan Sri Rais Yatim, four senators and two opposition MPs, took effect on July 15 and will be valid until July 14, 2024.

       In a statement on Monday (July 26), MACC stated that the appointments were based on the advice of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in line with the provisions of the MACC Act 2009.

       “Those who were appointed are from the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat to represent the government and the opposition parties.

       “The committee members are Rais, Senator Md Nasir Hashim, Senator Raj Munni Sabu, Senator Idris Ahmad, Senator Zaiedi Suhaili, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim and Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai.

       “The committee members have the role of advising the Prime Minister on various aspects of corruption issues and checking the annual MACC report.

       “The special committee must also examine the review of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board on the way MACC is run under the MACC Act 2009," the statement read.

       In addition, the special committee may also seek explanations for matters within the MACC report and advisory board review.

       “The appointment letters have been handed over by the Prime Minister and witnessed by MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki at Parliament on July 26,” MACC said.
