KUALA LUMPUR: Police here have arrested 11 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during operations in the city over the weekend.

       City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said a team of four officers and 45 personnel members from his department conducted operations from Friday (Sept 24) to Sunday (Sept 26).

       "The operations were focused on motorcycle offences and street racing along Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Bangsar and the Duta Ulu Klang Expressway (Duke).

       "At Jalan Pahang, we arrested two motorcyclists aged in their 30s and 40s and seized 1.7g of syabu," he said in a statement on Sunday.

       He said both suspects also tested positive for drugs and were taken to the Wangsa Maju police headquarters for further action.

       "We also arrested 11 men aged between 23 and 66 for driving under the influence of alcohol,” added ACP Sarifudin.

       He added that five males aged between 14 and 21 were arrested for reckless riding in operations against street racing along the Duke and Jalan Bangsar.

       ACP Sarifudin added that their dangerous behaviour included zig-zagging, weaving through, and performing the “superman” stunt among others.

       He said that a total of 571 summonses were issued for various offences and 22 motorcycles were seized for illegal modifications.

       "These motorcycles will be sent to the Road Transport Department for inspection and be ordered to revert back to their original specifications," he said urging motorists to be responsible and safe road users.
