KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man for riding a stolen motorcycle while 14 others were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol following weekend traffic operations here.
City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said they conducted the operations from Oct 29 to Oct 31 involving eight officers and 90 personnel members.
"The operations focused on areas around the city centre, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Raja Laut and the Duke Highway. On Oct 29 we arrested a 35-year-old suspect for riding a motorcycle believed to be stolen from Kuang,” said ACP Sarifudin.
"The suspect has been handed over to the Sungai Buloh police for further action," he added in a statement on Sunday (Oct 31).
He said they then arrested two suspects, aged 18 and 24, along Jalan Ipoh on Saturday (Oct 30).
"The two suspects will be charged for using false number plates. We also arrested 14 men aged between 25 and 64 for driving under the influence of alcohol during various operations," he said. He also said that all arrested had been brought to the city traffic police station for further action.
Meanwhile, ACP Sarifudin said police managed to arrest six men for street racing along the Duke Highway.
"The suspects rode their motorcycles dangerously and performed various manoeuvres including superman, zig-zagging and rocket,” he said
"The six aged between 17 and 39 will be charged for reckless and careless riding under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act," added ACP Sarifudin, who also said that police issued 297 summons and seized 15 motorcycles during the operations
