KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,250 summonses have been issued to motorists during a three-day police operation codenamed Ops Utama here from Friday to Sunday (May 6 to 8).
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department head Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Saleh (pic) said during the operation, held in conjunction with Ops Selamat 18, police also arrested 11 local men aged 15 to 47 for various traffic offences.
"Eight of them were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, two for using false vehicle registration numbers and one for riding a stolen motorcycle," he told a press conference held early Sunday after leading the operation in the federal capital.
The operation focused on modified vehicles, drink-driving and road bullies.
ACP Sarifudin said police also arrested a local man for alleged possession of drugs. The man also tested positive for drugs.
He said a total of 25 vehicles, including 22 motorcycles, were compounded for illegal modifications.
He added that police had been stationed at the three main entry points to the federal capital to help divert traffic following an expected increase in the number of vehicles with more city folk returning home from their Aidilfitri holidays.
He advised road users to exercise caution and drive safely. – Bernama
