JOHOR BARU: Another Johor opposition assemblyman has announced that he will not be defending his seat in the state election.

DAP’s Jementah assemblyman Tan Chen Choon said he had written to party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng about his decision not to run.

“I entered politics when I was 30 in 2000 and have served the party for 22 years.

“I think it is enough and time to pass the baton to the younger generation,” he said.

Tan stood in the 2004, 2013 and 2018 general elections and has served as state assembly whip, state public accounts committee chief and state executive councillor.

“I gained a lot of knowledge and experience in government administrative affairs when I held these positions, which also enriched my political experience,” he said.

Tan is the third Johor assemblyman to decide not to contest.

Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Mazlan Bujang from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and DAP’s Yong Peng assemblyman Chew Peck Choo announced earlier that they would not defend their seats as they planned to retire.

The Johor state assembly was dissolved on Jan 22.
