KUALA LUMPUR: North America-based semiconductor equipment manufacturers posted US$3.67bil in billings worldwide in June 2021 as demand for chips continues to accelerate.
The Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturers Industry (SEMI) reported on Tuesday the billings in June, on a three-month average basis, rose 2.3% from the final May 2021 billings of $3.59bil.
The billings were 58.4% higher than June 2020 billings of $2.32bil, according to the June Equipment Market Data Subscription (EMDS) Billings Report published by SEMI.
SEMI president and CEO Ajit Manocha said the semiconductor equipment market demonstrated extraordinary growth in the first half of 2021.
“We are witnessing a structural shift in the industry marked by higher capital investments as demand for the semiconductors needed to power technologies unleashed by innovation and the digitisation of economies continues to grow,” he said.
