PETALING JAYA: E-hailing service providers who charge over the ceiling price will face stern action, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

       In a meeting with representatives from Malaysian E-Hailing Industry Workers Welfare Association on Friday (May 27), the Transport Minister said he was concerned over the recent soaring fares.

       "As I have mentioned during a press conference previously, I do not intend to over-regulate or supervise the industry.

       "However, I will not hesitate to take stern action against operators who impose fares above the ceiling price (which exceeds the 200% surcharge) set by the government," he said in a Facebook post.

       Dr Wee added that he had the opportunity to listen closely to suggestions and input from the association’s representatives on ways to improve the industry as a whole.

       "I have taken note of the suggestions and will ask the relevant agencies to study them," he said, adding that the e-hailing industry had created thousands of jobs for Malaysians.

       Also present at the meeting were the association’s chairman Jose Rizal, vice-chairman Alex Yong and treasurer Joseph Boo.
