PETALING JAYA: The new student centre in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) being constructed will have multiple uses, including housing a small and medium enterprise (SME) centre, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

"This will be a one-stop centre that aims to bring together SMEs and the supporting eco-system to synergise innovation and entrepreneurship for the betterment of the SMEs and the wider community.

"As one of the nation's premier higher learning institutions, TAR UC throughout the years has been supportive towards the transformation plans set forth by the government by producing much-needed human capital to help steer these aspirations," he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Oct 30).

Dr Wee officiated the groundbreaking ceremony earlier on Saturday.

He said TAR UC had continuously upheld this commitment and understood the human capital needs of the country.

"The setting up of the SME centre is a critical step in the right direction for TAR UC to support and develop SMEs to be the driver of growth in Malaysia.

"In the near future, TAR UC students who aspire to be entrepreneurs will be able to gain access to network connections, professional development and training or services as well as research knowledge transfer via the SME centre to give them a leg up in their entrepreneurial journey," he said.

Dr Wee said TAR UC had shown remarkable results in various areas and it was in preparation to be upgraded to a university.
