PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong shared a heartwarming exchange he had at a coffee shop, saying that it embodied the spirit of the Malaysian Family (Keluarga Malaysia).

This was after his visit to the Hua Hua Hainanese Cafe in Johor, which had both Malay and Chinese hawkers selling food at the same premises.

Dr Wee, who is Ayer Hitam MP, visited the coffee shop, which moved from the Parit Raja town to a housing area four years ago.

“This coffee shop, operated by a Hainanese entrepreneur, is famous for its Hainanese coffee, roti bakar (toasted bread) and half-boiled eggs.

“It has definitely embodied the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ concept since it was set up 44 years ago,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Jan 8).

During his visit, the Transport Minister noticed that half of the diners at the coffee shop were Malays and they were loyal customers of the cafe.

Coincidentally, he also bumped into Parit Raja police station chief Sergeant Major Nazri Mohd Said, and they were able to have a short discussion about local security issues.

“But what demonstrated the muhibbah spirit and Malaysian Family concept was that there was a stall selling Javanese food by Abang Aziz, an old acquaintance of mine in Parit Raja.

“Malays and Chinese were doing business at the same premises.

“When I asked for the bill, Abang Aziz told the coffee shop taukeh (the shop operator) to fetch the bill first and they would sort out the finances later.

“This is something we rarely find in big cities,” Dr Wee said.
