Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg caused a stir on social media on Aug 14 with his latest Instagram post, showcasing a “Roman-inspired” statue of his wife Priscilla Chan.
The image features Ms Chan, 39, casually sipping from a mug beside the 2.1m-tall sculpture, which is in an eye-catching mix of silver and robin egg blue.
In the Instagram post, Ms Chan cheekily commented: “The more of me the better?”
Mr Zuckerberg, 40, said the statue was the work of American contemporary artist Daniel Arsham. He commissioned the piece to celebrate “the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife”, he said in his Instagram post.
People magazine, which called Mr Zuckerberg “the ultimate wife guy”, reported that in Roman times, statues were sometimes made to honour dead loved ones or to “refer to significant relatives and to make meaningful associations”, The Guardian reported.
The statue, currently placed under a tree in what looks like the couple’s garden, has prompted varied reactions online.
Many users praised Mr Zuckerberg’s romantic gesture, with comments like “Husbands everywhere are shaking”, and “I apologise Mark, I wasn’t familiar with your game”.
However, some were less enthusiastic. One person remarked: “This is the most billionaire thing ever”, while another simply said: “Yikes. This is quite unflattering.”
Married since 2012, Mr Zuckerberg and Ms Chan have three daughters aged one to eight.
