KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman aims to develop the Royal Malaysia Police’s Pengaman Autism Centre further in stages, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

The Inspector-General of Police said further development of the centre would depend on its facilities and financial capabilities.

“At the moment, the centre has 23 students with autism but there are many parents waiting to enrol their children there.

“Since the centre began operation last year, it has been our goal to improve and develop it further to accommodate more students and teachers,” he told reporters after attending an autism students’ early education and skills programme at the centre yesterday.

During the event, Yayasan Bank Rakyat presented the centre with a RM100,000 donation for the programme.

“We hope it can help ease the financial and administrative burden faced by the centre’s management,” said Acryl Sani.

Yayasan Bank Rakyat chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said the foundation was committed to assisting the centre.

“We hope to make the centre our ‘anak angkat’ (foster child) and continue to support it.

“With the assistance, we hope it will bring some joy to the children with autism in their daily lives and they can learn something new,” he said.

The programme, Megat Zulkarnain added, was aimed at creating more awareness and focusing on intervention for those with autism to receive education similar to other children.
