Farage warns 'biggest confrontation in decade' with France to hit 'before Christmas'

Nigel Farage issued the warning as tensions with France remain high over migrant crossings and a dispute over fishing licences. Emmanuel Macron issued a two-week notice to the British Government demanding an immediate U-turn on the issuing of licences after a small amount was granted to French vessels in September. London last month threatened to withhold a multi-million payment to France over the failure of the French Navy to stop attempts from migrants to cross the Channel into the UK.

Speaking on GB news, Nigel Farage said: “Can I say all this nonsense? It means nothing but here's the kicker.

“The kicker is we are about to face the biggest confrontation between the Brits and the French for decades.

“I sense it's coming for Christmas.

“We are paying them 130 million. Another 54 million to stop the migrant boats coming."

He continued: “They are still coming -all the rest of it.

“They demand fishing rights in Jersey and elsewhere.

“We've granted 95 percent of French fishing requests in licences around the United Kingdom.

“They're fishing out to our six-mile line.

Fury was sparked after No.10 announced last month that it had approved just 12 of the 47 applications.

Paris has called the move “unacceptable”.

Annick Girardin, France’s maritime minister, has told French fishermen that she “won’t give up”.

The potential sanctions could be rolled out as early as 1 November.
