PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry has unveiled an app that would facilitate infrastructure planning to create a more efficient logistics and transport network in Malaysia.

The MyLogistik app is built on a logistic facilities geospatial map, according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“MyLogistik, developed in collaboration with the National Geospatial Centre (under the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry), is an online mapping of all logistic infrastructure location information that includes warehouses, off-dock depots, enforcement stations, airports, federal ports, train stations, ICQ (immigration, customs and quarantine) checkpoints, jetties, and train track and road networks,” he said.

He added that with the logistics sector forming the backbone of the economic supply chain, there was now a need to create an interactive map that displays the locations of all logistics facilities and transport networks.

“MyLogistik is aimed at helping logistics players plan the movement of goods in the most efficient manner by taking into consideration existing infrastructure and connectivity.

“It will also benefit government agencies as policy makers to ensure the logistics sector will flourish and remain competitive.

“It is hoped that MyLogistik will realise the country’s aspirations to improve the efficiency of transport and logistics services that have been identified as one of the key enablers for socio-economic development through the National Logistics Task Force,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Other than the National Geospatial Centre, the development of MyLogistik was also done with the cooperation of the Customs Department, Marine Department, Road Transport Department and Land Public Transport Agency.

Dr Wee said logistics industry players were also part of the sub-committee on National Freight Data, with these stakeholders engaged in line with good regulatory practices.

He said his ministry had been tasked with leading the development of the country’s logistics sector through a Cabinet decision on April 21, 2015, by forming and chairing the National Logistics Task Force.

“This task force is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Logistics & Trade Facilitation Master Plan, as well as discussing and finding solutions to issues in the logistics industry alongside the International Trade and Industry Ministry and Human Resource Ministry, and the Customs Department,” he added.

The Logistics & Trade Facilitation Master Plan has outlined five strategic directions with 21 action agendas to strengthen Malaysia’s position as the main logistics entrance in the Asia region.
