China sends nuclear bombers into Taiwan's airspace as fears of war intensify

The Chinese-claimed island dispatched combat aircrafts to warn away the Chinese advances, as well as monitoring them with missile systems, according to the defence ministry. The ministry reported ten J-16 and four Su-30 fighters, along with an anti-submarine aircraft.

Reportedly four H-6 bombers, which can carry nuclear weapons, were also among the Chinese aircraft.

Taiwan reported the latest incursion into its airspace on Sunday.

Just last week, the ministry warned that the threat from China was increasing.

A recent annual report released by Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence offered a stark warning stating China's military is able to neutralise its defences with “soft and hard electronic attacks”.

The Taiwanese defence ministry stated the People's Liberation Army (PLA) can “paralyse” Taiwan's defences.

This report revealed the situation is worsening as the previous report stated China lacked the capability to launch an attack.

Taiwan is a democratically ruled nation, but China claims sovereignty over the island and has indicated plans on merging it with the mainland.

Tensions have been rising between China and Taiwan as Beijing has suggested the possibility of invading their island neighbour.

China has not ruled out using force to achieve a desirable goal in regard to Taiwan.

This Chinese incursion into Taiwan's airspace is only the latest occurrence.

The island has reported repeated missions by China's air force over the past year, with the majority taking place in the southwestern part near the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands.

The previous incident took place on June 15 when 28 Chinese air force aircraft entered Taiwan's airspace.

This is the largest incursion reported by Taiwan's defence ministry thus far.
