Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall hosted a reception for the cast and crew of The Archers to mark its 70th anniversary. Actors Sunny Ormonde and Carolyn Boyd performed a scene for the occasion as Camilla watched in stitches. She is a self-professed Archers addict as admitted that she's suffering from "withdrawals" due to disruptions in the longstanding drama due to Covid.

       The show had been a "faithful companion for a large part of my life," she explained.

       "Like many other Archers addicts, I have been known to become quite ratty if disturbed between 7pm and 7:15pm - and, like thousands of others, had severe withdrawal symptoms when you all but disappeared during lockdown.

       "But I'm very glad you're back, let's keep it that way," she added.

       Camilla added that it was "nice to put names to the faces," adding: "Now let us look forward to the next 70 years in Ambridge.

       The original, one-off scene was performed at Clarence House for the Duchess.

       She watched the actors record a scene in which character Lilian Bellamy, played by Sunny Ormonde, could be heard trying to dissuade Lynda Snell, played by Carole Boyd, from going upstairs to explore.

       Clarence House Tweeted an excerpt pointing to the show's official Twitter feed for the conclusion.

       Camilla also referred to the BBC Radio 4 drama as a "faithful companion for a large part of my life."

       She also reflected on a cameo appearance she made during a visit to BBC Birmingham in 2011, which was part of a special episode to mark the 60th anniversary.

       She said: "I was thrilled to be asked to appear in an episode ten years ago – although, not being a noted thespian, I was only entrusted to play myself."
