THE arch welcoming visitors to Melaka’s Little India has been refurbished and returned to its former glory, Makkal Osai reported.
The arch at the entrance of Jalan Bendahara in the historic city has been refurbished with elements of Indian cultural and traditional elements.
The refurbishment effort started years ago with then MIC president and former health minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, then continued by Gadek assemblyman Saminathan Ganesan after a change in government.
With another change last year, the task fell to former Gadek representative Datuk MS Mahadevan Sanacy with the cooperation of Mayor Datuk Zainal Abu.
The refurbishment, which was completed well ahead of the upcoming Deepavali festival, has been well received by the Indian community.
