Queen bent tradition to ensure Meghan Markle's mother included in Archie's royal life

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had Archie Harrison baptised in the private chapel at Windsor Castle on July 6 in front of family and friends. The Royal Family were joined by Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, who flew from America to see her first grandchild. Royal expert Angela Levin claimed it was "unusual" to include Doria in the Duchess and Archie's royal lives.

Speaking to talkRADIO, Ms Levin said: "It's very unusual to get the other grandmother to come along.

"Usually it's just the royals but the Queen made an exception and Prince Charles made an exception to invite Doria in to see the christening.

       "It was very nice indeed."

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge's parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, both attended the christening of all three of their grandchildren alongside their other two children, Pippa Matthews and James Middleton.

Her comments come as Kate Middleton and Prince William are said to be having "informal" chats with Meghan and Harry.

Kate and Prince William are having "informal" video calls with Harry and Meghan in the US as the brothers appear to be staying in touch since stepping down as a senior royal, according to royal expert Stewart Pearce.

He claimed that the Cambridges "respect" Harry and Meghan's lifestyle in the US.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from royal duties in March 2020.

Speaking to Royally Us on Us Weekly, Mr Pearce said: "I know that the four are talking with one another and they're talking via Zoom, they're talking via FaceTime.

"They're very close with one another.

"Look, they're very different people so their lens on the world is highly individualised and what's remarkable is they all totally respect that this lens is different.

"It's defined largely from a cultural perspective, isn't it?

"If William and Kate were living in the US, the lens of their creative realisation would be completely different to how it is in the UK."

He added: "It's really informal. It's like, did you watch Netflix last evening?"

The claims come as Harry and Meghan have made a donation to the charity Women for Afghan Women (WAW) after Afghanistan fell to the Taliban.

The charity wrote on Instagram: "We are immensely grateful for the generosity of the Archewell Foundation in support of our efforts to evacuate/relocate thousands of Afghan women, children, families, including our staff."
