IPOH: The 22-year-old babysitter who allegedly slammed a baby boy’s head against the floor has claimed trial to an attempted murder charge at the Sessions Court here.
Nursahidah Amran pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code before Sessions judge Norita Mohd Ardani.
She also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for abuse that could cause physical injury.
According to both charge sheets, Nursahidah is said to have committed the act at No. 65, Persiaran Pinji Selatan 23, Taman Desa Pelancongan 2, here between 7am and 2.45pm on Sept 22.
The seven-month-old’s head was reportedly slammed against the floor twice as he would not stop crying.
The baby was taken to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun and was found to have internal bleeding and cracks on his skull. He is said to be in critical condition.
DPP Afiqa Liyana Rozman asked the court to deny bail to prevent Nursahidah from disturbing the victim’s family, as they stay in the same housing area.
Nursahidah’s lawyer Muhamad Syahrul Nizam Mohd Rabi contended that bail should be given as his client would be at risk of being exposed to Covid-19 if she is detained in prison.
He also requested for a lower bail, saying her husband is just a cleaner with a salary of RM1,200.
Norita set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and ordered the accused not to disturb the witnesses.
Mention was set for Nov 30.
