Ibiza and Mallorca expected to get green list status with holiday boost imminent

Millions of holiday starved Brits may soon get the go ahead for travel to a range of new green list vacation spots. The comment comes as the Government prepares to unveil an update of the green list.

Travel to the exclusive list of countries does not require quarantine on arrival back into the UK.

A Government source told The Times there is a “real possibility” of adding Malta and the Balearic Islands to the list - which would include popular holiday spots such as Mallorca and Ibiza.

The Government is expected to announce the update on Thursday, June 24.

The green list has been constantly reviewed since it came into operation with ministers investigating possible updates to the travel list every three weeks.

Malta, which the Times source cited as possibly being added to the list, has an outstanding vaccination record - with over 80 percent receiving at least one dose of the vaccine.

In addition, the island nation has only recorded one Covid case per 100,000 residents over the past seven days.

Any implemented change to Malta’s status would allow Brits access to the country from June 29.

As with all green list countries, Brits will have to provide a negative PCR test to enter the country but will not be expected to quarantine upon their return.

This week, Health Secretary Matt Hancock is expected to confirm details of plans which would see fully inoculated travellers allowed to almost all countries from August - without having to quarantine upon their return.

The Sun further reported ministers would allow unvaccinated children to accompany their parents without being required to quarantine.

On Wednesday night, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said any update to the green list would be based on data.

He said: “Of course I very much hope the world could open up.
