YOKOHAMA -- Kanagawa Prefectural Police are set to dismiss an inspector in his 40s over suspicions that he leaked information related to an investigation to a party affiliated with an organized crime group, a source close to the matter has revealed.
According to the source, the police inspector, who currently belongs to Kanagawa Prefectural Police's second investigation division, previously worked at the organized crime division, and it is suspected that he relayed knowledge that was acquired during investigations to a party related to an organized crime group at the time. There is information that he received cash in return, but the inspector reportedly denied any monetary exchange when questioned by the prefectural police inspection office.
Prefectural police are also looking into the possibility of an alleged violation of the Local Public Service Act, and are poised to disclose disciplinary measures on Sept. 10.
