TAIPEI - Taiwan's semiconductor industry has long been hailed as the island's "sacred mountain", shielding it from setbacks as a result of geopolitical tensions and other factors.
The island currently holds around 50 per cent of the world's computer chip foundry production capacity, according to Ms Joanne Chiao, a researcher at Taiwanese research firm TrendForce.
