After a heartbreaking end to England's Euro 2020 campaign as England lost 3-2 on penalties to Italy, Marcus Rashford, 23, Jadon Sancho, 21, and Bukayo Saka, 19, received a torrent of vile online racial abuse for missing penalties in the shoot-out which saw England take second place at this year's European Championships. The horrific abuse has now triggered condemnation from the Football Association (FA), Boris Johnson and a host of politicians and famous faces.
Speaking to Sky News on Monday, health minister Edward Argar slammed the behaviour of vile trolls for attacking the three England players.
He said: “As the Prime Minister said, they are all heroes, they are a young side and I know they will be back stronger than ever.
“But what really is dissappointing as you’ve said is the appalling online racist abuse that we have seen members of that team suffer.
“There is no place for that in sport, there is no place for that in our country."

He added: “And I think it is absolutely right that the MET police have said they are investigating those posts and those possible offences that have been committed.
“And take action against those who put up those appalling tweets."
He went on to slam those taking part in the horrific online pile on against the young players.
Mr Argar hammered: “Those who have done this cannot claim to be true fans of this sport!"

The FA released a statement following the vile attacks on the players.
They said: "The FA strongly condemns all forms of discrimination and is appalled by the online racism that has been aimed at some of our England players on social media.
"Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse."
On Monday morning Prime Minister Boris Johnson hit out at the horrendous abuse of England players Bakayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.
He tweeted: "This England team deserve to be lauded as heroes, not racially abused on social media.
"Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves."
