KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is currently undergoing home quarantine for five days after contracting Covid-19.
In a statement on Tuesday (March 8), the Sarawak Premier's Office confirmed that Abang Johari had tested positive for the virus with mild symptoms since Monday (March 7).
"The Premier wishes to thank all the people who have shown their concern for his health and safety," the statement said.
Earlier Tuesday, state Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah told the Sarawak Women's Day celebration in Miri that Abang Johari had tested positive for Covid-19.
"I wish to convey apologies from the Premier of Sarawak. We received news at 9pm last night that he is unable to attend the ceremony because he has tested positive for Covid-19.
"Let us all pray for his speedy recovery," she said.
