Brian Cox, the award-winning Dundee-born actor, laid into the Government over their climate change commitments, going as far as to say we are all in “deep sh*t”. With COP26 approaching, a Question Time audience member asked whether an independent Scotland would put the economy or the climate first.

       In response to the question actor Brian Cox said we need to put the environment first, saying “the planet is dying” so we must make sacrifices.

       He said: “This is not a party-political issue, we’re in deep s***, we really are and really have to face up to it.

       “To use a Scottish word, I’m well and truly scunnered.”

       He added: “We’ve just had the information released today both in South America and America, Australia, Saudi Arabia want to circumvent what is going on.

       “We have to rethink it, we have to make certain sacrifices, in order to get better, we want to fall into ‘well we can’t afford that, because we will lose that’.

       “We have to think first and foremost about the planet and our responsibility to the planet.”

       He remarked later on: “We have to do better!”

       During the Question Time episode, the pro-independence and ex-Labour activist actor also paid tribute to the late Sir David Amess MP during his appearance on the BBC's Question Time programme.

       The Brexit-backing Conservative MP for Southend West was described by the actor as an “extraordinary man”.

       “They're killing one of the good guys, and that's what scared me,” he added.

       The UK has been selected to host the United Nations's 26th Climate Change Conference (COP) this year, with the event taking place at the SEC Glasgow exhibition centre.

       The COP26 was originally due to take place in November last year but was delayed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

       Now nearly a year later, world leaders will soon descend on Glasgow in Scotland alongside senior members of the Royal Family including the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William, and UK leaders including Prime Minister Boris Johnson aiming to tackle the pressing issue of climate change.
