A 65-year-old Indiana man has been charged in connection with a traffic crash that severely injured a Crestwood police officer, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.
Gregory Hilson is charged with aggravated driving under the influence in connection with the crash, which occurred at about 8 p.m. Saturday, according to police, who could not provide an address for him.
Crestwood police were on the scene of a traffic accident at Midlothian Turnpike and Pulaski Road when a gray Kia struck a police vehicle, with the vehicle hitting an officer who was directing traffic around the scene.
The officer remains hospitalized in critical condition, sheriff’s police said.
Hilson was charged Monday and had bail set at $50,000, with 10% needed to be posted, during a hearing Tuesday at the Bridgeview courthouse, according to police, who said that Hilson is hospitalized on an unrelated issue.
Cook County was asked by the Crestwood department to investigate.
