Mounds of rubbish were left strewn all over Brighton beach as temperatures reached close to 30C over the weekend. Brighton residents were left disgusted after discovering the usually picturesque coastline had been spoiled by piles of drinks cans, food containers and plastic bags.

       Rachael Jess, a Brighton local, shared pictures of the unsightly scenes and said her son was left “so upset” by the disgraceful state of the beach, SussexLive reports.

       Ms Jess posted on Instagram on Sunday (July 18): “Who didn’t take their s*** home yesterday?

       “My son is on Brighton beach this morning (waiting for me as I'm in the Brighton centre) and he is so so upset at the state of the beach.

       “As you know we often do a mini beach clean but we didn't come equipped for this today!”

       Free Uni Brighton posted pictures of piles of rubbish and picnic leftovers scattered all along the beach. They sarcastically said: “Brighton beach looking lovely this morning. Lucky to have such considerate visitors.”

       Former footballer Tony Shepherd also shared photographs from the scene to his 117k followers. He captioned the tweet: “Brighton beach yesterday and this morning.

       “I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches - a lot of them were VERY busy and none of them were treated this way.. Is it that hard to take the crap that they have brought with them?

       “If the bin is full, find another one or take it home with you.”

       One disgusted follower said: “I live in Brighton and it is great to see people enjoying the beach… but take your rubbish home with you!!!”

       Another woman said: “Both pictures are totally depressing in their own way, but people how hard id it to take your rubbish home?? You managed to bring it with you so what’s the problem?”

       A third replied: “So much for the theory that Covid lockdown might have a positive impact on behaviour when allowed to get back to normal life.

       “Thought we might show our appreciation to be able to enjoy beaches, parks, wild spaces again. Instead, we trash everything. Incredibly sad.”
