Video footage captures explosion in Crimea
Huge explosions have rocked Crimea for a second night in a row, forcing the temporary closure of a bridge connecting Russia to the peninsula.
Multiple explosions were geolocated to the western outskirts of Yevpatoriya, a small city located on the western coastline of Crimea. Experts believe the strikes, for which Ukraine has not claimed responsibilty, were targeting a Russian long-range air-to-surface missile battery nearby.
Videos of the attack showed columns of fire and smoke rising above the cityscape while subsequent footage captured one downed drone in the courtyard of an apartment block. There was also a single video showing one of the drones flying just above the city.
Several Russian military units are located in the region - since Vladimir Putin illegally annexed the peninsula in 2014, it has become a vital staging post for soldiers fighting in his “special military operation” on mainland Ukraine - while the Saki military airfield is also nearby. Ukraine has tried to strike that target before.
The Kerch Strait Bridge, located 170 miles to the east, roughly the entire width of the peninsula, was temporarily stopped as the drones fell. Ukraine has targeted the bridge multiple times with drones.

Russia kills Ukrainian boy, 6, in missile strike
Russia has killed a six-year-old Ukrainian boy in a missile strike in Kherson, the regional prosecutor’s office has claimed.
The attack took place in the Bilozerska district of Kherson Oblast, southern Ukraine. The area sits above the northern banks of the Dnipro River, close to the Russian forces in the corridor beneath.
A statement from the prosecutors said that the young child’s 13-year-old brother was also “in serious condition” following the attack.
“Three neighbours who tried to help but also came under enemy fire were also wounded,” the statement read. “Private houses and farm buildings were damaged.”

A Russian advance towards Kupyansk, Kharkiv Oblast, has been ongoing throughout Ukraine's counteroffensive in a bid (in part) to pull away Kyiv's more sophisticated forces from their own attacks.
One of Ukraine's highest ranked miltary officials of the Eastern Command claimed earlier this year that 100,000 Russian troops had been stationed in Luhansk Oblast for this attack.
But their attempts to make any significant gains have "stalled", according to the Institute for the Study of War (IWS).

Former US General in Europe praises Ukraine over Crimea strikes
Former Commanding General of the US Army in Europe Ben Hodges has praised the Ukrainian strikes on Crimea as “very sophisticated” in their efforts to make the peninsula “untenable” for Russian occupying forces.
You can read his full comment, published on X, below.
Raids on Crimea and oil/gas platforms to eliminate radar, then a complex drone/missile strike against Sevastopol. This is a very sophisticated approach to making Crimea untenable for the Russians.
The Ukrainian General Staff is running rings around the Russian General Staff. https://t.co/53AnBuXYOT

Ukraine weens itself of Russian nuclear fuel
Ukraine’s nuclear power plant operator announced it had successfully refuelled a reactor at one of its nuclear power plants with Western fuel.
The move marks a significant step towards “decoupling” with Russia over nuclear fuel, which provides approximately half of Ukraine’s electricity.
The British MoD reported on this in an update this morning. You can read their full report below.

Ben Wallace slams Russia after Crimea attack
Former defence minister Ben Wallace has said Russia should not be surpised that their Black Sea Fleet is being attacked in Crimea given it has helped bombed countless civilian areas in Ukraine.
Speaking uncharacteristically candidly, having recently retired from his cabinet position, Mr Wallace said it would be foolish for Russia "not to expect" a Ukrainian response in Crimea.
He said: "Russia can not use its Black Sea fleet to strike civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and not expect Ukraine to target those assets committing the war crimes."
