SEREMBAN: Police have detained the third prisoner who escaped from the Jelebu prison on Sunday (April 10), says Jelebu OCPD Deputy Supt Maslan Udin.
He said Shazuan Md Sharif, 32 was caught at 4am on Tuesday (April 12) in Sg Muntoh in Titi.
"The prisoner was detained by a team from the Jelebu Prison.
"He was taken to the Bahau magistrate's court later this morning to be remanded," he said in a statement.
Shazuan will be remanded for four days until April 16.
This brings the number of prisoners caught so far to three.
DSP Maslan said the police and the Prisons Department will continue its manhunt for four more remand prisoners still at large.
He also appealed to the public not to spread fake information, as this can jeopardise police investigations and public order.
The seven are believed to have escaped through a hole in the ceiling in the facility’s Muhasabah 2 block and later through another hole in the fence, which is believed to have been cut with wire cutters.
However, Sohaimi Khalid, in his 50s, was the first to be rearrested at about 7pm the same day. He was found hiding in an oil palm smallholding in Kangkoi some two kilometres from the prison.
The second, Mohd Zairizan Zainal, 42, who is awaiting trial for murder, was caught at about 5.15am the following morning in Kg Petasih Tengah in Pertang.
Apart from the first two detained, the five others are awaiting trial for charges under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Following their escape, police set up four roadblocks at the Jelebu border, namely Nilai, Kuala Pilah and Jempol in an effort to track down all those who escaped.
The Tracker Dog Unit (K9) of the Negri Sembilan police was also roped in to nab the escapees.
The four others still on the run are Muhammad Syafiq Rohmat, 32, Mazlan Samah, 39, Mohamad Aminuddin Khan Mohd Yusof, 28 and an Indonesian, only known as Zainuddin, 62.
Maslan urged those with any information on the matter to contact the nearest police station, the Jelebu IPD at 06-6136222 or investigation officer Inspector Zuria Anis Mahassan at 016-6096996.
