Sales of spuds slumped almost ten per cent in 2021, as demand for tomatoes soared to give them top spot.

Shoppers snapped up tatties in 2020 as the nation craved lockdown comfort food.
But as restaurants reopened this year and shoppers went on diets, spuds were off the menu.

The Grocer mag said: “The potato has lost its pandemic bounce. Our favourite carb has been hit by a slowdown to the home cooking boom.
