The tourists have been branded "mad" and "ignorant" for choosing the spot beside the track of the Llanberis Lake Railway over the weekend. Trains run regularly on the rails beside the water in north Wales.

       Social media users blasted the behaviour, North Wales Live reports.

       "(This) takes the meaning of railway sleepers to a whole new level," one Facebook user posted.

       "Bit of a mad place to pitch up considering Fachwen is right there," another comment reads.

       One man wrote: "Ignorance at its best. Stupid is. Stupid does."

       Another said: "This takes trainspotting to a new level."

       Wild camping is illegal in Wales but has become widespread this summer as hotels, guesthouses, holiday parks and camping sites are often booked solid at weekends as people, prevented from venturing abroad by COVID-19 restrictions, holiday in Britain.

       In the summer, tourists trashed Mount Snowdon with litter after gathering "like at a party" at the beauty spot.

       North Wales Live has contacted the Llanberis Lake Railway for comment.
