       Donald Trump’s White House return can be a huge boost for Britain, with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage playing a pivotal role, a close ally of the incoming US President has predicted.

       Peggy Grande, who also served as a staffer in the administration of Ronald Reagan, speaking after the confirmation of the billionaire New Yorker’s victory over Democratic challenger and current vice-president Kamala Harris, acknowledged his lack of popularity on this side of the Atlantic.

       But she also sought to underline the positives - and predicted his election would restore the so-called “special relationship” between the UK and the USA.

       When he returns to the White House in January Mr Trump will become just the second US President to serve a second non-consecutive term in office after Grover Cleveland in the 19th century.

       His emphatic triumph over Kamala Harris saw him win not just the electoral college but also the popular vote, unlike in 2016, when Hillary Clinton’s total exceeded his by almost three million.

       As of today, he had 72,642,855 votes (50.9%) compared with 67,958,303 for Ms Harris (47.4%).

       However, research published by IPSOS on Tuesday - the day of the election - suggested a deep distrust of Mr Trump in the UK, with just 21% believing it would be a "good thing" if he won, compared with 50% for his Democratic rival.

       Additionally, some Labour frontbenchers including David Lammy and Wes Streeting were this week forced to walk back criticisms of the 78-year-old made in 2017, when the former branded him “a nazi” and the latter “odious"

       Ms Grande, who was the chairwoman of World For Brexit prior to the 2016 referendum, told Express.co.uk: "When Donald Trump was President, the 'special relationship' was very robust, primarily because of his friendship with Her Majesty The Queen, of whom he was quite fond.

       "Even though a majority of those polled in the UK recently don't like Donald Trump and didn't want to see him re-elected, they nonetheless will benefit from a Trump Presidency.”

       Mr Trump's second presidency would only strengthen the United Kingdom and "elevate its standing in the world”, Ms Grande emphasised.

       He said: "A strong America makes for stronger allies. Donald Trump will also look to revisit and strengthen the bi-lateral trade agreement which was advanced during his time in office, also benefiting the UK.”

       Though some Labour frontbenchers including Foreign Secretary Mr Lammy had been critics of Mr Trump, he had made it clear that "Success Will Be Our Revenge”, Ms Grande pointed out.

       She added: "He seems poised to look forward with optimism and hard work, rather than looking back with grievance and regret.

       While advocating for Brexit, Ms Grande also got to know Reform UK leader Nigel Farage well and suggested his closeness to Mr Trump would likewise benefit Britain.

       She explained: "As a close personal friend of Donald Trump's, Nigel Farage is well positioned to have direct access to the president, making him very powerful indeed."
