The crash happened between Andover and Salisbury in Wiltshire. This evening, the county's police force tweeted: "We are currently at the scene of a train crash involving two trains between Andover and Salisbury.
"We are responding with the fire and ambulance service at the site close to Grateley.
"Will update as soon as we have more information."
South Western Rail also confirmed there was a "problem" on the line.
It tweeted: "We've received reports of a problem currently under investigation between Salisbury and Grateley.

"Train services may be disrupted through this area."
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) also confirmed that is was "deploying inspectors to the site".
It said that the "collision between two trains near Salisbury Tunnel Junction".
"On arrival they will commence a preliminary examination of the scene," it added.

A Twitter user called Katrina claimed that her husband's friends were on the derailed train.
She tweeted: "Husband has set off to collect our friends who were on the derailed train in the Salisbury crash this evening.
"Beyond grateful they are safe, and really hoping everyone else is too."
LBC reported that Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service had sent 50 firefighters to the scene.
The radio station also claimed that "around 12 passengers have been injured after a GWR train derailed on hitting an object near Salisbury and a South Western Railway train struck the back of the derailed train".
It is understood that the train began its journey in Portsmouth and was due to finish at Bristol Temple Meads.
The British Transport Police later confirmed that it had created a "casualty centre has been set up at St Mark’s Church, St Mark's Ave, SP1 3DL".
It is currently unknown how many, if any, casulties there are.
