Pedro Lopez is a convicted Colombian serial killer dubbed the Monster of the Andes.

It is believed Lopez started his killing ways after a traumatic incident while incarcerated.

Lopez was arrested in 1969 for auto theft and sentenced to seven years in prison.

While in prison, he was brutally gang-raped by three inmates.

To get revenge, he made a shiv and murdered all those that had wronged him.

The local police decided this was an act of self-defence meaning he only got an additional two years added to his sentence.

Upon his release in 1978, Lopez started his crime spree, raping and murdering younger girls from across Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

In 1979, a flash flood near Ambato, Ecuador, revealed four of his victims.

As the victims were uncovered, Lopez attempted to abduct Maria Poveda, a twelve-year-old girl from Ambato but failed to do so when her mother stopped him.

Other women tried to beat Lopez, however, he was "rescued" by local authorities and subsequently arrested.

How many people did Pedro Lopez kill?

The exact figure of how many people Pedro Lopez has killed has never been disclosed and is reported differently by various outlets.

He was sentenced in 1980, where he was convicted of the murder of 110 people.

It is believed that Lopez went on to confess to a further 240 murders and he only confessed to the additional murders due to the discovery of one of his graves through the flash flood.

       Where is Pedro Lopez now?

Lopez is still at large after his release from prison in 1994 for good behaviour.

After his release, he was arrested as an illegal immigrant and deported to Colombia.

Once in Colombia, Lopez was put on trial for another murder that matched his M.O.

The trial, set in 1995, declared him insane and he was sent to a mental hospital till 1998 when a second evaluation deemed him sane and released him.

He was released on a $50 bail and told report to the police monthly, something which he never did

If he is still alive, his location is unknown.

Interpol issued a warrant for his arrest over a fresh murder in 2002 but has not been able to recover Lopez.

He is one of the most infamous serial killers of all time, coming second to Luis Gavarito, a Colombian man who targeted young boys.

World’s most dangerous serial killer who raped 300 little girls was released on £50 bail and is still at large
