BATU PAHAT: Professor Dr Ruzairi Abdul Rahim (pic) has been appointed vice-chancellor of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) with effect from Monday (May 9).
In a statement, the university's Marketing and Corporate Communication Office said the three-year appointment until May 8, 2025 was made by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.
Ruzairi, 55, succeeds Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Razzaly, whose term has expired.
"Before this, Ruzairi was a professor in Electronic Instrumentation Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Skudai in 1998, serving as its Engineering Faculty dean.
"He was appointed UTHM deputy vice-chancellor (research and innovation) for three years from Dec 1, 2016 to Nov 30, 2019,” the statement said.
Ruzairi holds a PhD from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom and is an expert in tomography & sensor technology.
He was named the Top Research Scientist in Malaysia in 2013 by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia..
Ruzairi has won 45 awards at university and international levels and supervised 30 PhD students and research projects, apart from being actively involved in the writing and publication of books and journals.
"UTHM hopes that with his vast experience, Ruzairi will be able to steer the university towards becoming a Global Technopreneur University by 2030,” it said. – Bernama
