MELAKA: Crows in the historic city are turning into a major menace and the population needs to be controlled, says Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) Mayor Datuk Zainal Abu.
He said apart from noise pollution, the sidewalks at tourist hotspots and cars were slicked with bird faeces.
“We have decided to embark on the large-scale operation to cull the crows, especially in Kota Laksamana and Bandar Hilir area in a bid to control the population,” he said after holding an event with local media practitioners at MBMB office in Ayer Keroh here on Thursday (March 24).
The event was also attended by Melaka Media Club (Pendika) chairman Amir Mamat.
Zainal said the council’s aim of embarking on the operation was to only control the population of the crows with no intention to fully eradicate the species.
“There were mounting complaints on the problem caused by the crows and we need to act,” he said.
Zainal added that the operation will be jointly conducted by relevant authorities including police and monitored by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan).
