One dead and two seriously injured as ‘major’ crash causes traffic chaos in Manchester

       The incident happened on Haddon Hall Road in Droylsden. Greater Manchester Police were called shortly after midday. Emergency services rushed to the scene but the female pedestrian was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained at the scene to assist police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made.

       A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "A woman has sadly died following a collision on Haddon Hall Road, Droylsden.

       "Officers were called at around 12.15pm today (21 October) to Haddon Hall Road where it is believed that a man in his 70s lost control of his vehicle and collided with three pedestrians.

       "Emergency services attended but despite the best efforts of paramedics a woman - the pedestrian - was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

       "Two further female pedestrians have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

       "The driver has remained at the scene to assist police with their enquiries.

       "No arrests have been made.

       "Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting log number 1383 of 21/10/21.

       "Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

       North Road in Droylsden has been closed in both directions.

       Transport for Greater Manchester had earlier said there had been a serious road traffic collision.

       It tweeted: "North Road, Droylsden. Road closed both directions between Palm Street and Edge Lane due a serious RTC."

       One witness speaking to the Manchester Evening News had described it as a "major police incident".

       Tameside Council also described it as a "major road traffic incident".

       It also confirmed three roads had been closed as a result.

       The council tweeted: "Major road traffic incident in Droylsden.

       "Haddon Hall Rd, North Rd and Lewis Rd all closed.

       "Please avoid the area."
